The book includes chapters on discussing the home, the value of family life, messes and loving to serve, family relationships, and being newly married. It also gives practical advice on mothering and challenges mothers are faced with through pregnancy and raising children. And finally, it ends with topics such as criticism, pursuing virtue, chick flicks, taking reproof humbly etc. Overall I liked it. It is full of encouragement. Even if much of the book is geared toward married women, it is still excellent material for young ladies.
Some of the chapters and their goals:
Chick Flicks: "We have an industry devoted to producing sappy romantic novels, hours of TV time filled with soap operas, and films that aim to seduce women by drawing them into a vicarious illicit relationship." N.W.
Courtship Blues: "Some courtships fail because of too many idealistic assumptions from the outset. The daughter visualizes her own personal dream relationship, and when this solid Christian man doesn't sweep her off her feet or swing her up onto his horse as he rides by, she calls it off. She wants more fireworks, or she wished he were more like some man in her imagination." N.W.
Loving Labor: "Scripture teaches that it is more blessed to give than to receive...it is more blessed to be the giver. A healthy Christian community is characterized by people who labor for one another, looking after the needs of others(Phil.2:4) N.W.
Young Wives: "Don't be surprised if it takes a while for you to get your feet under you...Don't give way to discontent. Don't allow little doubts and ugly attitudes to creep in, saying things like, "I though marriage would be different," or "It's not the way I thought it'd be." N.W.Indecency: None
Violence: None
Language: None
Age Interest: 18-older
