Beginnings of American Literature ~ A Beka Book

This book is a treasure chest for the passionate reader! It is filled with poems, art, biographies, hymns, short stories, questions and answers, and over 100 works of the greatest authors and poets. It also includes the complete, unabridged book "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne. From firsthand accounts of establishing Plymouth by William Bradford, to tales of Deerslayer by James Fenimore Cooper, Beginnings of American Literature will not disappoint the reader's appetite for adventure, well written literature, and learning about the great nation America and its people.

Some of the literature and their authors...

Sinners in the Hand of an Angry God ~ by Jonathan Edwards

Contents of the Dead Man's Pockets ~ by Jack Finney

Haircut ~ by Ring Lardner

The Town Poor ~ by Sarah Orne Jewett

The Pit and the Pendulum ~ by Edgar Allan Poe

Poor Richard's Almanac ~ by Benjamin Franklin

I find myself constantly going back to this book, I can never get enough of the numerous authors and their works.

That's one thing about ABeka. Whether or not we ever continue to use all of their curriculum in other subjects, their readers(in all grade levels) are fabulous. I wouldn't want to give them up.
They are extremely affordable and easy to get as well (there is an abundance on Ebay). :-)

I love the A Beka Literature books! I'm only weeks away from completing my Bachelor's degree in English, and I must say that the A Beka high school literature books are far more professional, insightful, colorful, and carefully edited than any of my college literature textbooks.
